Default I am back.

Hi fellow tankers. Its been almost 7 years since i fired up my Tigers... Been busy with my new family and 1st Baby (son). Now that my son is 17 months old now (walking all over the place) he loves to run around outside all the time. upon checking my old room full of Anime model kit robots, planes, action figures, and 1/6 figures i saw my old tanks. to cut it short, i bought a 1/6 stuart brand new (still sealed) battery is dead for sure.. this is what i did so far.

Congradulations on becoming a father!
In relations to the stuart, it looks great so far! I have been contemplating that if i got one of those, i might convert it into a m8 hmc, but that is if i ever get my hands on one, as the 1/6 stuarts are hard to find, and a new one at that!

https://youtu.be/YGTBA722TaE finished my proportional 1/6 stuart. since i wasnt able to get a original stuart board i installed a separate sound module. also installed 1 dual motor esc with built in mixer. used my 4ch futaba 4wd am radio and r124h receiver. but everytime i turned on my sound module the range of the tx and rx shortens to a about 10 to 20feet. seems its interferring with the signal. gonna buy a FM tx and rx. hope this will solve it.

Just bite the bullet and grab a 2.4Ghz.

yup, ordered one from amazon. same tx and rx. dont know why the sound module is interferring with the AM signal. but if my sound module is off or if i put the volume to 0 it doesnt interfer with thw signal. by the way my sound module is connected to my rx.

May not be signal and a voltage issue. If the sound is pulling more than your ESC BEC is sending to the RX you may be experiencing brown outs? Before you get your new TX/RX try to power your sound/speaker independently and see if the interference is still there.

Hi, Chinito, it's good to see you decided to come back to tanks. That Stuart sure is a nice piece of kit. To be honest, that's a tank I never really cared for, but after watching your video I'm having second thoughts. I'd really like to get my feet wet in 1/6 scale, and I was thinking about starting with a simple Jeep, but I know that one of the best things about the 1/6 scale Stuart is that it can be very economical. At least compared to the prices on a lot of the German armor. I've been into 1/16 tanks for about 4 years now and seriously love the hobby, but at some point I really want to build at least one 1/6 scale Tiger One.

It seems both you and Bret are very familiar with the Futaba 4 channel, so one of these days I'll have to get y'all to tell me why you would buy that instead of a 9X or an i6. I know Futaba has always been the go-to TX for the old school Tamiya guys, but this hobby changes so fast it's hard to keep up! Another thing I'm trying to learn about is dual motor esc's, is yours a sabertooth? How big does it have to be for a tank like that? 2x12 maybe? Even bigger?

I'm wondering if this is a new feature since you took your hiatus, putting the video right in your post? 7 years is almost twice as long as I've even been in the hobby, so it might be interesting to know what's changed about the forum since you were last active.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wll3VFBQCU&feature=youtu.be Anyway, that's a seriously kick-ass Stuart you have there, and I hope you'll get us some video of it in action out in the wild. Something like this in a scale that big would be pretty cool.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfV14lVSS_w Yeah, I have too much time on my hands.

Gary, yea alot of guys are using sabertooth ESC's. They are relatively cheap even compared to 1/16 electronics. I just put a sabertooth dual motor 25amp ESC into my 1/12 excavator and it's working well so far. Only issue I could see is if it's the only ESC to power your RX it's only a 1amp BEC. So if your running a bunch of servo's or function motor off the RX it could be an issue. As for the 4 ch futaba, for me it's just keep it simple. Since I started off on Tamiya's electronics 16+ years ago you never needed more than 4 ch's anyways. All the new electronics are kinda backwards in my opinion with all the stick movements and inputs required to get functions going. Don't get me wrong I like all the novelty stuff, but it's just that. I still use my trusty non-programmable 75mhz or 2.4Ghz for all my tanks whether it's tamiya, El mod, BARC4, etc electronics. Too many tiimes I've seen tankers sitting on the sidelines because some setting was wrong or a wrong model was selected or and end point had to be adjusted because they didn't switch models, and so on. Also Gary it boils down to personal preference, and I don't want to switch over 20+ RX's. I've got a DX8 for my aerial and construction r/c stuff, so not afraid of the programmable just don't think it's necessary for IR battle tanks. This is just my 3 cents so to each their own for sure.

I have one of those sabertooths but mine is a 2x12. I think that should run a small tank, though, like maybe a Panzer II. I understand why guys that have been doing this a while want to stick with the futaba, just to avoid the hassle of changing to a new brand. That's one of the main reasons I stick with Testors Model Master enamels, I have so many of them that to replace them all with acrylic would cost a small fortune. I've been thinking the TGY-i6 is going to be my go to radio. It's 6 channels, but can use the i10 RX for more and it's only about 50 bucks. Now if I can find someone to 3D print some self centering levers for me ...

Hi gentlemen. i am outdated too.
at 1st i thought its the voltage issue but when i connected the module to another battery still get interference...
i am using scorpion xl dual motor esc v2 with built in mixer.
actually the 1st video pushing my son is a stock electronics.

http://youtu.be/YGTBA722TaE

this one i took it yesterday volume is set to lvl 2 but the range is short since the sound module is interferring.. the tank would shake if ot goes morethan 15 to 20 feet and will not respond. and if i higher the volume i think i wont be able to control the tank. havent tried it though.
i used ESS one sound module intended for buggy rc.. you can easily change the sound using your computer. =)

I use the ess one units as well. Actually just slaved a micro MP3 player to it in one of my crawlers so I have tunes on the trail/rock pile. Cool units. Which sound are you running for the Stuart? If RX is near ess one, magnetic field from ess one could be culprit.

i am using v8 tow truck engine. i relocated my rx to the very back... am guessing my AM rx is outdated or because i out sourced the speaker? i mean i added a speak, i connected the stuart's original speaker. its pretty awesome lil module.

Yea, really hoping going to the 2.4Ghz sorts it out for ya. The ESS units are cool as hell. Have you heard any of the aircraft sounds yet?
For poop's and giggles want to hear the 262 sound and have a crawler with a turbine kinda sound.

guess what sir... it wasnt because its of the rx/tx its because of the magnetic field from ess.. the ess doesnt want to be inside the hull of the tank.. i tried placing the ess outside and problem solved.. i am now planning to mount the unit in front of the tank right behind the front shovel...

Right on. Have you received your 2.4 radio yet? I'd try again with the ESS in the original place with the 2.4 system. I have ESS systems right next to 2.4 RX's with no problem.

Yup, got my new rx/rx 2.4 fm.. It's the ess system when the speaker in on is interfering with the am system.. Don't know why.. But it's working great with my 2.4 system.

heres a video of tha tank before I installed 2.4 fm system.
